The first multiplayer gameplay trailer for Star Wars Battlefront 2 debuted at the EA Play press conference, the unofficial kick-off to E3 week. The trailer focuses heavily on two of the all-new gameplay groups of characters, the Clones and the Droids of the Prequel-era films. Yes, the Clone Wars are coming to Battlefront 2 in a big way, as fans who wanted more eras of gameplay will be very happy to see.
In the exciting trailer, we see the clone and droid armies in the "Assault on Theed" map, which takes us to Naboo. Of course, there are still major Hero and Villain characters, too, and we get to see some Darth Maul in action, along with a comical line of dialogue from one of the clone troopers that encounters him.
The new multiplayer won't just allow you to play in Prequel, Original, and Sequel trilogy eras. You'll also be able to play with actual classes, something EA brings over from their Battlefield franchise. When you jump into a multiplayer match, you can choose an Officer, Assault Trooper, Heavy Trooper, or a sniper Specialist. Yes, this means you and your friends can just go full-on role-play and be your own group of Hevy, Echo, Fives, Cutup, and Droidbait. Star Wars: The Clone Wars fans, get excited.
Air combat has been refined, as well, a welcome piece of news to fans frustrated with some erratic controls in the first game.
Actor John Boyega also made a pre-recorded appearance to announce that his character from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Finn, will be the first downloadable hero, alongside the villain Captain Phasma. The pair will come along with a new map set on the planet Crait, that distant desert planet we saw in the first teaser for The Last Jedi. The best part of all this news? That downloadable content will be free, as well the rest of the "Season" of content, all focused on The Last Jedi. On top of the new story campaign mode, it sounds like Star Wars Battlefront 2 is addressing every complaint fans had in spades.
Battlefront 2 hits PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows on November 17, 2017. Check out the new multiplayer trailer (with a tiny tease of story mode, too), below.
