The recent spinoff film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story slipped in a few subtle nods to the animated series Star Wars: Rebels, but it sounds like the next proper sequel could do a whole lot more.
Making Star Wars reports the rumored creatures native to the planet Ahch-To, where Luke Skywalker has been hiding out all these years, are actually the Convorees (or Force Owls) introduced on Star Wars: Rebels. The creatures show up around critical moments and players connected to the Force. They’re typically drawn to both the light and dark sides of the Force, so if they're hanging around Luke, that could have interesting implications. They also come around when, as Rebels producer Dave Filoni said, "something weird" is about to happen.
Initial reports about these little creatures indicate Rey will have to slug it out with them to earn their respect to hang around the island. No word on exactly how long that segment might actually take, but we're thinking probably an early action scene to kick things off. Maybe? Again, take that all with a grain of salt, but it's what a lot of early reports seem to indicate.
There are still a whole lot of lingering questions, but it looks like another animated fixture could be making the jump to live action — in more than just a few blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments, this time.
