Aside from the intial excitement, the announcement has already seen the beginning of a plethora of fan theories. One fan tweeted: "Rian Johnson's Star Wars Trilogy is going to be set 100 years after Episode IX and will tell the epic story of one Porg’s quest to become a Jedi and initiate a new generation of all-Porg Jedi Knights."

According to Variety, Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, praised Johnson for his work on The Last Jedi, noting that he's the perfect candidate to take on this new challenge. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career," Kennedy said. "Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
