Inspired by the popular Star Wars: Forces of Destiny animated shorts, IDW Publishing is partnering with Lucasfilm again to produce a five-week comic book series that will extend the female character brand in Star Wars Adventures: Forces of Destiny. The weekly event starts in January and will not only feature the baddest women of the galaxy, but will also be produced by some of the best ladies in comics today.

The comics will star Padmé, Leia Organa, Ahsoka Tano, Hera, Sabine Wren, and even the newest ladies introduced into the saga with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Rose and Paige, further exploring their untold tales. They are the latest venture in an ever-expanding Lucasfilm all-ages initiative that builds on the Star Wars Adventures comics that started coming out from IDW in September. Also stemming from the animated series, the 11-inch Forces of Destiny "adventure figures," as well as storybooks, with more to come.

“The Forces of Destiny initiative has won over fans with its inspiring tales about these iconic heroes,” says Senior Editor Denton J. Tipton. “IDW Publishing couldn’t be more excited to be part of the celebration of these beloved characters.”

The impressive roster of writers include Jody Houser, Devin Grayson, Elsa Charretier, Beth Revis, and Delilah Dawson. Producing art and covers will be Charretier, Arianna Florean, Eva Widermann, Valentina Pinto, and Nicoletta Baldari. There will be a variety of variant covers that fans will be able to choose from. Charretier's variant covers for each of the five issues will interconnect to form one large image. There will be collectible animation cell variants and a super-rare variant by Annie Wu.

Look for the comics to hit your local comic shop starting January 3.
