The towering atomic lizard will return to theaters in Japan this summer with Godzilla: Resurgence from Toho, the classic kaiju studio who first originated the giant mutant monster craze in 1954. This latest big-screen homecoming will be Toho's first since the 50th anniversary of Godzilla in 2004 and features a reboot storyline that debuts the tallest redesigned Godzilla ever seen, measuring in at a titanic 389 feet tall, standing head and shoulders above Gareth Edwards' 354-foot Godzilla in the American 2014 version.
Here's the first trailer again, in case you missed it in April..
Written and directed by Hideaki Anno, legendary creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion, this retelling of the Godzilla mythology chronicles the initial appearance and attack of the monster on Japanese soil and also includes the co-directing talents of Shinji Higuchi, the special effects wizard and director behind the pair of live-action Attack on Titan movies. Check out this gallery of new hi-res images below, courtesy of Toho and SciFiJapan, and tell us if you're gonzo for a new Godzilla flick.
Starring Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, Satomi Ishihara, Rando Yaguchi and Ren Osugi, Godzilla: Resurgence thunders into theaters in Japan on July 29, 2016.
