Stuff We Love: Adventuring with the waffle crew in Dice, Camera, Action

Ever since I started watching Critical Role, I’ve been looking for other Dungeons & Dragons streams to watch online. While there are quite a few I like to check out regularly these days, the one that I’ve been eagerly following the most recently is Dice, Camera, Action.

Dice, Camera, Action is a livestream you can watch every Tuesday on the official Dungeons & Dragons Twitch channel. Chris Perkins, principal story designer for D&D, is the dungeon master for players Anna Prosser Robinson, Holly Conrad, Nathan Sharp, and Jared Knabenbauer. The group plays through adventures like Storm King’s Thunder and Curse of Strahd, and is occasionally joined by a guest. The adventurers try to defeat vampires, fight giants, and just stay alive as they save the world and search for waffles. Yes, this party has a love for waffles that has earned them the nickname waffle crew and unfortunately, they don’t get to enjoy them enough!

It’s the personalities of each character and the party’s quirks like a love for waffles that made me a fan of the show. You might need to watch an episode or two to really get into it, but once you do you’ll become quite attached to everyone. It’s not just the main characters you’ll grow to love, either. Perkins develops some unforgettable NPCs, including a few that stick with the party such as an adorable owlbear the crew names Waffles and, perhaps my favorite NPC, a murderbot called Simon. Perkins is an amazing DM who crafts a story that really tests the players and is sure to surprise you. I don’t think I’ve watched a D&D stream that has made me literally gasp out loud as much as Dice, Camera, Action has. The show will make you smile, laugh, cry, and stun you into the occasional shocked silence.

There are currently more than 70 episodes of Dice, Camera, Action available on the D&D YouTube channel and I’m almost done bingeing them all. As each episode continues this group’s journey, I’m reminded of why I enjoy D&D so much. I can’t wait until I’m caught up and can join this amazing waffle crew on Tuesdays as they play in their D&D game.
