Supergirl is finally back next week after a super-lengthy hiatus. To herald the Girl of Steel’s return on our TV screen, The CW has unveiled an extended trailer for the midseason premiere. But that's not all, because we also have a close-up look at Mon-El’s new comic book-accurate red suit.
Titled “Schott Through the Heart,” the show’s return episode will guest-star Laurie Metcalf (The Big Bang Theory) as Winn’s (Jeremy Jordan) estranged mother, Mary. When Winn’s father, Winslow Schott Sr., aka Toyman (Henry Czerny), dies in prison, Mary returns and tries to reconnect with her son to explain why she abandoned him.
The trailer reveals that Mary had to leave because Toyman threatened to kill Winn if she came anywhere near him. However, based on the synopsis, Winn is too resentful of his childhood spent with a murderous father to forgive her. When a copycat Toyman attacks National City, mother and son team up in order to stop him.
The new trailer is positively creepy with its disturbing take on “Pop Goes the Weasel” playing in the background as Toyman’s coffin explodes and the DEO must investigate who is behind the bombings. We also see Mama Schott trapped by a giant pincer and Kara (Melissa Benoist) running out of air inside some sort of human-sized plastic doll packaging.
The network has also unveiled new pics from the follow-up episode titled “In Search of Lost Time,” revealing that Kara’s former boyfriend and Legion of Super-Heroes member will finally don the character’s iconic red suit. The synopsis also says that “Mon-El begins training Kara in fighting techniques he's learned in the future for battling Worldkillers.”
Seeing the former lovers side by side, it’s interesting to note that Mon-El’s costume is basically a reverse version of the one Supergirl wears, and pretty close to what he sports in the comics. Which begs the question: Did Winn make his bro's new suit?
