While SYFY’s Krypton has just cast its Brainiac in the form of Da Vinci’s Demons’ Blake Ritson, The CW’s Supergirl has cast his descendant and Legion of Super-Heroes member, Brainiac 5.

TV Line reports Defiance alum Jesse Rath (Being Human, No Tomorrow) has been cast in the role of Brainiac 5 and we can expect to see the character make his Supergirl debut in Episode 10, which is very aptly titled “Legion of Super-Heroes.” Brainiac 5 is joining fellow Legion team member Saturn Girl (Amy Jackson) on the Arrowverse-adjacent TV series.

Created by Jerry Siegel and Jim Mooney, Brainiac 5 first appeared in 1961’s Action Comics #276. Half computer, half organic life, Brainiac 5 has a 12th-level intellect which makes him a super genius. His ancestor was Superman supervillain Brainiac and to redeem his family line, the green-skinned Querl Dox (that's his real name) from the planet Colu took on the name of Brainiac 5 and became a superhero with the Legion. A brilliant scientist, inventor and combat strategist, Brainiac 5 was also a long-time love interest of ... you guessed it: Supergirl. A live-action version of the character was played by Buffy alum James Marsters on the final season of Smallville.

On the CW series, Brainiac 5 will travel from the 31st Century to help the DEO and the Girl of Steel (Melissa Benoist) take on Reign (Odette Annable), the supervillain-in-the-making and new L-Corp CEO Samantha Arias. Co-showrunner Andrew Kreisberg previously teased the character’s arrival on Supergirl by saying that: “Someone down the road will like Kara a lot, which will be a lot of fun.” What will this spell for Kara and Mon-El (Chris Wood)? As Kreisberg said, this should be fun to watch.

Are you excited about the addition of Jesse Rath as Brainiac 5 on Supergirl?
