Looks like Superman may not be the only other Kryptonian to head to National City on Supergirl after all. Prepare to kneel before Zod!
According to a recent report over at Bleeding Cool, Mark Gibbon has been cast in the role of DC supervillain General Zod and that he is already filming. Gibbon is a genre vet that has appeared in several TV series and movies, including The Chronicles of Riddick, Underworld Awakening, Man of Steel, Smallville, Stargate SG-1, Falling Skies and The 100. He also lent his voice to several comic book characters such as the Hulk in the Fantastic Four and Iron Man cartoons and Nick Fury in Spider-Man Unlimited.
Created for the pages of Adventure Comics #283 back in 1961, General Zod has been portrayed by Terrence Stamp in Superman and Superman II, Michael Shannon in Man of Steel/Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and by Callum Blue on Smallville.
Now, this hasn’t been officially confirmed by The CW yet, so we have to take this news with the appropriate dose of salt needed until we either see filming pics or the network comes out of the woodwork Fortress of Solitude and makes an official announcement.
The fact that Tyler Hoechlin is coming back for the Season 2 finale (along with Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant) — no doubt to help his cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) and the DEO against the threats of Queen Rhea (Teri Hatcher) and Cadmus — could lend some weight to the rumor. One thing that I find surprising (and that's just me), however (if the rumor turns out to be true), is that they didn’t go with someone with a more recognizable name for the role of the iconic Kryptonian villain.
What say you?
