Things are not looking good for Superman's grandfather in a new teaser for SYFY's Krypton, a show that explores a time long before the planet's destruction and the Man of Steel crashed-landed on the Kent farm. Said grandpa, Seg-El, is played by Cameron Cuffe, who narrates the teaser in a broodingly British manner.
"Our generation was meant to inherit the stars, and now I'm the last. The only surviving member of the House of El," says Cuffe. In the series, we'll find Seg-El as a Kryptonian outcast hoping to redeem his family honor and save his planet from descending into chaos.
From the few short clips in this preview, we see a Kryptonian S.W.A.T. team and the planet's cityscape, which resembles a cross between Tim Burton's version of Gotham City and Los Angeles in the first Blade Runner. All in all, Krypton looks like it will take place in a sci-fi dystopia, not the cultural and scientific utopia the planet is sometimes portrayed as in the comics.
Developed by David S. Goyer and Damian Kindler, the show debuts in 2018. Cuffe's co-stars are as follows: Georgina Campbell (Lyta Zod), Ian McElhinney (Val-El), Elliot Cowan (Daron-Vex), Ann Ogbomo (Alura Zod), Rasmus Hardiker (Kem), Wallis Day (Nyssa-Vex), Aaron Pierre (Dev-Em), Shaun Sipos (Adam Strange), and Blake Ritson (Vril Dox). Doomsday, Hawkgirl, and Ter-El (Seg's father) will also appear in the show, but their casting choices have not been announced yet.
