Supernatural writer reveals Smallville crossover that never happened

The CW is all about crossovers these days, and it could’ve featured one between two other fan-favorite shows several years before Supergirl headed to Earth-1 to hang out with the Green Arrow and Flash.

Jackson Stewart previously worked as a writer on Supernatural, and revealed to Entertainment Weekly the writers' room had batted around an idea to cross the show over with Smallville — just with a bit of a twist. The idea would’ve focused on the "Superman Curse," and the Winchesters track down Tom Welling to protect him from the curse. Considering how many fans are clamoring for Sam and Dean to pop up in the Arrow-verse, this could’ve been one heck of a precursor.

Here’s the excerpt from Stewart’s explanation:

“There was a lot of really cool ideas that some of the writers had. They had an episode where they really wanted to do a Superman curse that was about every actor who plays Superman ends up getting killed. So they find out that Tom Welling from Smallville is next and have to save him. I thought that was one of the funniest ideas that I’d heard.”

Considering how meta Supernatural has gotten over the years, there’s no doubt this idea could’ve actually worked organically within the framework of the series. If anything, it’s actually more surprising the CW didn’t do it, considering it would’ve created some synergy and buzz between two of the network’s biggest hits (at the time).

What do you think? Would you have tuned in for a Smallville/Supernatural crossover?
