Syfy has just snagged another interesting paranormal property: Five Ghosts: The Haunting of Fabian Gray, a treasure-hunting comic centering around a gang of famous literary ghosts.
The project was initially optioned by Universal Cable Productions, then picked up by Syfy, partnering with Black Mask Studios and Benderspink. Written by Frank J. Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham, Five Ghosts follows the exploits of Fabian Gray, a dashing '30s-era adventurer, and the legendary group of sophisticated spirits who possess him: Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Musashi, Robin Hood and Merlin. The comic book began life as a Kickstarter project, then was grabbed by Image Comics and featured at last year's Emerald City Comic Con. Sounds like a bit of Indiana Jones meets League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in the afterlife's netherworld.
The pilot is being developed and wriiten by Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman, Divergent) and has the potential to be an intriguing addition to Syfy's ever-growing roster of serious genre projects in development.
Do you like the show's haunting premise, or does this ghost story feel a bit transparent?
