SYFY Films’ latest project, Realive, sounds like Rip Van Winkle with a sci-fi twist.

According to the studio, the film stars Tom Hughes (About Time) as Marc Jarvis, a man who is diagnosed with a disease and given a short time to live. Unable to accept his own end, he decides to freeze his body. He eventually wakes up 60 years later, in 2084, becoming the first cryogenically frozen man ever to be revived. Not surprisingly, he discovers a startling future — but it seems a bit of his past returns to haunt him all the while.

Realive is written and directed by Mateo Gil (Vanilla Sky), with a cast that includes Hughes, Charlotte Le Bon (The Walk, The Hundred-Foot Journey), Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones) and Barry Ward (The Fall, The Journey). The film premiered at the 2016 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal and was a selection of the FrightFest Film Festival in the U.K. and Sitges International Film Festival in Spain. The project debuted to a solid critical reception, with reviews comparing it to stories like Ex Machina and The Tree of Life.

Realive is set to open in theaters on September 29 and on VOD and Digital HD October 3.
