Is this the year of Taylor Kitsch? Aside from starring in this weekend's John Carter, the actor will appear in Universal's game-based blockbuster Battleship. The studio has released a new featurette that shows Kitsch in action as the film's unlikely hero.
Director Peter Berg takes us behind the scenes of Battleship's first day at sea. Kitsch, Rihanna and John Tui are sent to investigate a mysterious chunk of debris floating in the ocean. The trio get more than they bargained for when Kitsch's character Hopper reaches out and touches something he shouldn't.
Hopper gets the shock of his life (literally) when he's thrown 40 feet in the air and has the wind knocked out of him. The character's a bit shaken, but his portrayer's solid as a rock. When it's all said and done, Kitsch gets up, wipes himself off and exclaims, "Sweet!" Not bad for an honest day's work.
Here's the official synopsis:
Inspired by Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancée; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.
Battleship opens nationwide May 18.
