Marvel Studios has not been shy about showing us plenty of footage from its next release, Black Panther. Ryan Coogler's film about the titular African superhero is riding a massive wave of buzz, and we're still more than two weeks out from its theatrical debut. Last night, Marvel celebrated the world premiere of the film, and to mark the occasion Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman, stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote the flick.
In addition to the usual banter about what it's like to play the hero (he's apparently huge in China), how he feels about seeing the film with an audience for the first time, and the enduring charisma of Robert Downey Jr., Boseman also brought along a new Black Panther clip, and you're gonna want to see this one.
We've seen plenty of trailers and TV spots for Black Panther so far, but full, substantial clips have been relatively rare. This one, featuring a thrilling fight scene on a subterranean train track, definitely does not disappoint. It features T'Challa (Boseman) and the villainous Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), both in full vibranium Panther gear, ducking and dodging each other in a spectacular cave, surrounded by the wonders of Wakandan technology while T'Challa's sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) looks on in horror. As it becomes clear that he's going to have to change the conditions of the fight in order to win, T'Challa makes a bold decision, and that's when things get even more interesting.
Of course, that's also when the clip ends, because Marvel doesn't want to give too much away, but it's still a thrilling display of the action choreography and design of the film. Wakanda already looked like no other place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this sequence only adds to the allure. Check it out, then stick around for Kimmel's interview with Boseman.
Black Panther is in theaters February 16.
