The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman lords over the Image Comics imprint, Skybound, which has produced some intriguing genre titles like Witch Doctor and Invincible since its inception in 2010.
Its latest horror title, Redneck, delves into the dark Southern corners of the Bowman bloodsucker clan, who run a small barbecue joint, earning a good living as upstanding members of the community until "generations of hate, fear, and bad blood bubble to the surface — making it impossible to separate man from monster."
Written by Donny Cates (God Country), with art by Lisandro Estherren (The Last Contract), this looks like an appetizing tale of the cow's-blood-guzzling undead and their notorious Texas eatery.
"Redneck is truly a dream come true for me as a storyteller, and to be able to tell this story on a stage as nice as Skybound and Image have given us? I don't think it gets better than that," said Cates. "Redneck is deeply personal for me, and I think will be for a lot of people out there as well. It's a story about a family's quest to turn themselves into more than the monsters they've always been. To find a little peace in a world that hates them. It ain't gonna be easy, and it's sure as hell gonna be bloody. But it might just be the best time you've ever had reading a book about vampires!"
Here's a first look at the cover for Redneck #1 ... and it might ruin your lunch.
Redneck #1 is set to be served up at comic shops on April 19. We'll try to order you a tasty sample of art when it arrives!
