It's been a while since we heard anything about that Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds, but apparently it ain't dead yet. According to director Tim Miller, they're fired up and ready to go. Well, except for one thing.
Miller is currently raising money for a crazy, comic-based CGI flick, The Goon, on Kickstarter, and used the forum to fire off an update about his long-stalled Deadpool film.
"We've turned in an amazing script and done some early tests and visual development that--I'm confident--would get the fans stoked. And Ryan still loves the project. So it's really up to Fox as to whether or not the film happens--all I can do is hope (and beg periodically) that it be allowed to move ahead."So there you have it. Script? Check. Star? Check. Effects tests? Check. Studio greenlight? ... not quite.
Sadly, judging by the fact that the current script is a hard-R adaptation of the merc with a mouth, it seems this one could stay on the shelf indefinitely. Modern logic has shown that comic book movies typically need to hit that PG-13 sweet spot for mainstream success, and even a star like Reynolds may not be enough to carry this one past the hardcore fans.
But it's nice to know that Miller hasn't given up. If he hasn't, then neither will we.
What do you think? Will this film ever see the light of day?
