The Force baton is passed on Empire's new Last Jedi cover

If there are two things any Star Wars fan enjoys, it's lightsabers and holograms. And while the latest cover of Empire Magazine definitely has the former, you'll have to settle for holographic instead of a hologram. This cover won't be telling you that you're its only hope quite yet.

The subscriber-exclusive cover features a close-up of Rey's hand as she passes her lightsaber to the robotic hand of Luke Skywalker. Presumably this takes place shortly after the final scene of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, though I suppose they could also be doing some Jedi training version of the 4x400m relay.

This issue of Empire goes on sale Sept. 7, and promises an eight-page feature on the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The newsstand edition will also feature a holographic Star Wars cover, though that one has yet to be revealed.

While the cover doesn't tell us much that we didn't already know, it does raise questions for the new movie. Will Luke want his lightsaber back? Does Rey get one of her own? And which of them is the titular Last Jedi? Whatever the case, between this and Force Friday II, there's no doubt that Star Wars season is in full swing.
