The Joker is Gotham's savior in 5-page preview for DC's Batman: White Knight #1

Masks, labels, and identity are under intense scrutiny in this topsy-turvy new Batman title where the Joker is now purged of his checkered past and deadly deeds and is now the champion of Gotham City, attempting to rid it of the dreaded Dark Knight.

DC's Batman: White Knight is a new mini-series coming next month, with words and art from one of my favorite creators, Sean Murphy, who is beyond a doubt one of the finest practitioners of the art working today. Those unfamiliar with his masterful pencils need to SPRINT, not stroll, down to your nearest comics shop and flip through some pages of Scott Snyder's The Wake, Rick Remender's Tokyo Ghost, or Mark Millar's Chrononauts. Dude can seriously draw!

Here's the official solicitation synopsis:

In a world where Batman has gone too far, The Joker must save Gotham City.
He’s been called a maniac, a killer and the “Clown Prince of Crime” but “white knight”? Never. Until now…
Set in a world where the Joker is cured of his insanity and homicidal tendencies, The Joker, now known as “Jack,” sets about trying to right his wrongs. First he plans to reconcile with Harley Quinn, and then he’ll try to save the city from the one person who he thinks is truly Gotham City’s greatest villain: Batman!
Superstar writer and artist Sean Murphy (PUNK ROCK JESUS, THE WAKE) presents a seven-issue miniseries of a twisted Gotham City with a massive cast of heroes and villains that, at its heart, is a tragic story of a hero and a villain: Batman and The Joker. But which is the hero—and which the villain?

Bolt into this bold 6-page preview of Batman: White Knight #1 in the gallery below and let me know if Murphy's new exploration of the Caped Crusader and his maniacal foe will find its way onto your pull sheet when the series launches on October 4.
