Universal Pictures has unwrapped a second action-packed trailer for The Mummy, set to kick off the studio's ambitious monster movie universe.
Directed by Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek) from a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) and Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange), The Mummy stars Tom Cruise as Nick Morton, a man chosen by Sofia Boutella’s (Star Trek Beyond) evil titular mummy, Princess Ahmanet, for mysterious reasons. The film also stars Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (Terminator Genisys) and Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll.
The Mummy’s latest trailer features a boatload of exciting new scenes that feel like they’ve just been plucked from the recent Tomb Raider and Uncharted video games. Since they're two of my favorite gaming franchises, the comparison is meant as a good thing. It’s been clear from the get-go that the movie would be heavily action-oriented, and this latest trailer sure doesn’t disappoint! Read up on the official synopsis before digging into the new trailer below:
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
The Mummy will open in theaters on June 9.
