Earlier this year, we learned the demonic nun from The Conjuring 2 would be getting her own spinoff, with The Hollow helmer Corin Hardy (who also happens to be a helluva pumpkin carver) sitting in the director’s chair. The Nun filmed over the summer in Romania, and buried among a new Annabelle: Creation Blu-ray featurette is the first footage from the horror movie, which you can see below.
The Nun follows a priest (Demian Bichir, Alien: Covenant) with a troubled past, and a young novitiate on the cusp of taking her final vows, who are sent by Rome to investigate a young nun’s mysterious death at a Romanian cloistered abbey (the seeds of which were planted in Annabelle: Creation). Unholy secrets will be unearthed, and the pair will have to face off against the malevolent nun introduced in the second Conjuring movie.
Kicking off around the four-minute mark, the first spooky footage conjured up in the video below reveals the gorgeous-looking cloister complete with an interior courtyard overlooked by a statue of the Virgin Mary (and a ghostly nun doing some ghostly stuff, because reasons). We also get to see Bichir’s character, Father Burke, inside the church's (chapel?) crypt.
Written by horror master James Wan and Gary Dauberman (Annabelle, IT, Annabelle: Creation), the newest entry in the Conjuring cinematic universe also stars The Conjuring's Vera Farmiga’s sister, Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story), Charlotte Hope (Game of Thrones), Jonny Coyne (Nightcrawler), Jonas Bloquet (3 Days to Kill), Ingrid Bisu (Dracula: The Dark Prince), and Bonnie Aarons (The Conjuring 2).
The Nun opens in theaters on July 13, 2018. Have a look at the first footage in the featurette above, and let us know what you think.
