The History Channel (home of Vikings) has released the first exciting trailer for their upcoming Knights Templar TV series, Knightfall.

Created by Don Handfield (The Founder) and Richard Reyner (L.A. Without a Map), Knightfall is executive-produced by Jeremy Renner (Captain America: Civil War), with Dominic Minghella (Doc Martin, Robin Hood) acting as showrunner as well as executive producer.

The 10-episode series from A+E Studios stars Tom Cullen (Black Mirror, Orphan Black), Pádraic Delaney (Dark Touch), Simon Merrells (Spartacus), Olivia Ross (Personal Shopper), Ed Stoppard (Genius), Sabrina Bartlett (Da Vinci’s Demons), Jim Carter (Downton Abbey), and Julian Ovenden (Downton Abbey) and focuses on the final years of the order of warrior monks as they search for the Holy Grail.

Check out a description for the upcoming TV series via Entertainment Weekly:

The show picks up in 1306, toward the end of the Templars’ run as one of the most powerful organizations in the Christian world. Thanks to the bloody battles of the Crusades, the Templars are losing allies at the same time they’re gaining enemies, such as the King of France. With the help of a special sword and the knowledge that the Holy Grail is somewhere in France, the Templars bet everything on this grand quest.

Could the special sword be Excalibur, somehow? Am I reading too much into this? After all, the search for the Holy Grail is also tied to the Arthurian legend, but, yeah, this is probably just wishful thinking on my part. That sword doesn't look Excalibur-like, but it's got a hidden secret for sure. And a nifty one at that.

There’s no premiere date slated for Knightfall yet, but expect the series to air sometime in the fall. Dig into the trailer, and let us know what you think.
