Get ready for an awesome new sci-fi blockbuster. Skybound Entertainment -- the publishers behind The Waking Dead -- have today announced that they’re teaming up with Universal Pictures to develop Christian Cantamessa and Chris Pasetto’s fantastical comic series Kill the Minotaur into a feature film.

The series was only just released this past June and has already been a hit with comic book fans, with the first issue selling out within days and forcing Skybound to rush for a reprint.

Featuring the stellar artwork of Lukas Ketner and Jean-Francois Beaulieu, Kill the Minotaur is a modern take on the ancient Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur.

No doubt the movie will follow Theseus as he enters into King Minos’s bizarre Labyrinth to defeat the Minotaur, a creature which feeds on human sacrifices, before the monster can escape its prison to threaten the outside world. Sounds like there's some epic cinematic battle scenes to be had right there.

The script is also being penned by creators Cantamessa and Pasetto, who previously worked with Skybound on the film, AIR (2015) starring Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou.

“Christian and Chris have ingeniously taken one of the most ancient of horror stories and spun it into a vital sci-fi thriller. We’re excited to work with them on translating this great comic into the electrifying movie it deserves to be,” said Skybound Entertainment CEO David Alpert and co-presidents of TV & film Sean and Bryan Furst in a joint statement.

SYFY WIRE recently sat down with the creative team behind the series to discuss the inspiration, and what it was about the epic story of Theseus and the Labyrinth that drew them in, which you can watch in the video below.
