If you were hoping The Event would turn out to be the next sci-fi TV blockbuster, the ratings for last night's premiere episode are in, and they showed ... it wasn't. But the good news is that although the series didn't end up in Lost territory, it at least delivered a decent-sized audience.
According to Deadline Hollywood, The Event did a 3.7 rating/9 share in adults 18-49, with 11.2 million viewers overall, and:
At 9 PM, The Event was up 68% from the underwhelming premiere of Trauma in the same period last fall. The drama starring Jason Ritter scored NBC's highest non-Olympic rating in the hour since Feb. 2 2009.
As for last night's other sci-fi TV news:
At 8 PM, the fourth season premiere of Chuck (2.1/6) was down 19% vs. its spring season premiere last year but up 17% from its May season finale.
So it wasn't the best of nights for sci-fi, at least not ratings-wise.
Bottom line: While it'll be a few episodes before we know whether The Event will thrive, it'd probably be a good idea to tell your friends to tune in if you don't want the series to go the way of FlashForward.
