Those crafty producers at NBC's Chuck continue to mine sci-fi gold as they cast their fifth and final season. Joining the likes of Star Trek: Enterprise's Scott Bakula, former James Bond Timothy Dalton and Terminator's Linda Hamilton from past seasons, it's now been announced that Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss will join the Chuck-fold in the upcoming season, along with Star Wars star Mark Hamill.
"We have a lot of really big stories that we want to tell. It's exciting to be able to close out your story on your own terms, which is something you usually don't get on television. It's big," said co-creator and executive producer Chris Fedak in an exclusive interview. "So here in the last season of the show we've decided to almost relaunch the entire show."
Indeed, last season left us with Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strzechowski) newly married and launching their own spy network, and Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez) ending up being the new Intersect.
Coming up this season, "like everybody else on the show, John Casey is facing a lot of big changes," said Fedak. Casey (Adam Baldwin) will go to work for Chuck and Sarah at their new Carmichael Industries spy company.
"The other big, big part of the story is that this year Casey is going to have a love interest. Her name is Gertrude Verbanski, and she runs Verbanski Corp., which is Carmichael Industries' chief competition," he said. Moss will play the role of Gertrude—a ruthless spy with a soft spot for Casey—in a multiple-episode arc.
As for Hamill, he'll take a villainous turn at the beginning of the season. And Craig Kilborn will also guest-star as a villain.
Chuck premieres its fifth season on Friday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
