For a super-duo who can shrink to the size of insects, things are about to get huge.
The new Ant-Man and the Wasp TV spot released by Disney and Marvel today is crawling with new glimpses of the team-up between Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and his partner Hope van Dyne/The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) as they fly in to save humanity from the criminal Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), who has unlocked the quantum realm by stealing equipment from Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and can now pass to the macro realm and back—and through objects like an actual ghost.
What emerges in this preview that the official trailer left the dark? You still see plenty of buzzing, flying and car-smashing action, but you also get in on Lang’s plan to make a list of what needs to be done to take down Ghost. Much easier said in a car with all the windows closed than actually done.
“One, we need to team up,” he says. Obvious. “Two, we’re gonna have to fight Ghost.” Also obvious. “Three, we’re gonna track down Ghost.”
That third one was about the most obvious you can get if you want to engage in combat with a villain in the first place, which is why Lang quickly corrects himself and makes it part 2A. Then he remembers that another item on the list is saving the world. That one is so major it doesn’t even get a number.
Speaking of saving the world (and the universe), in case you were wondering why there were no heroes in insect suits joining forces with the rest of the Avengers in Infinity War, there was a legal conflict in the storyline. Lang/Ant Man was actually under house arrest while everyone else was up against Thanos and trying to survive in the middle of cosmic mass destruction. Maybe he and the Wasp lucked out there, because they could have gotten squashed.
Ant-Man and the Wasp flies into theaters on July 6.
