It looks like the God of Thunder has come roaring back.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok collected more than 136 million views in the first 24 hours since Marvel unveiled it on Monday -- making it not just the most-viewed Marvel trailer ever in that time frame but also the most-viewed Disney trailer, period, beating out heavyweights like Star Wars and Pixar.
Before this, Beauty and the Beast's 127.6 million views held the 24-hour record for Disney. Star Wars: The Force Awakens racked up 112 million before that, while Captain America: Civil War was the previous title-holder with 94 million views.
The Asgardian Avenger's new clip, however, could not quite bring the hammer down on the competition from other studios: The overall 24-hour record holder is the trailer for Stephen King's It, which scared up 197 million views, while The Fate of the Furious has been checked out more than 139 million times.
Discussion about the trailer among fans has been lively, with some embracing the Jack Kirby-esque colors and designs, the debut of characters like Hela (Cate Blanchett) and the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), and of course the showstopping arrival of the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) as Thor's opponent in a cosmic gladiatorial ring.
But other fans have complained that the trailer's tone veers into Guardians of the Galaxy territory with its jokes and rock music backdrop (Led Zeppelin, in this case), while seeming to forget that both previous Thor movies were actually pretty funny too, especially the first one.
2011's Thor and 2013's Thor: The Dark World tend to end up near the bottom of fans' rankings of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies so far, and their box office, while perfectly acceptable (over $1 billion combined, worldwide), hasn't been nearly as vigorous as that of fellow Avengers like Iron Man and Captain America. Yet the last time we saw Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Ruffalo as the Hulk was back in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, so maybe everyone is starting to miss the two biggest and strongest members of the team.
Plus it's just a great trailer, with that one line — "He's a friend from work!" — that's sure to go down in MCU history as a classic. Thor: Ragnarok smashes its way into theaters on November 3.
