Amazon Prime has snagged the unholy rights to stream Fox’s upcoming supernatural TV series Lucifer in the UK, shortly following the show airing in the U.S. To celebrate the awesome news, they’ve released a brand-new trailer starring Tom Ellis in the role of the devilishly charming titular character.
Originally slated for the fall, the show now won’t air until January 2016. But the sinful pilot has already received some positive reviews -- despite what might be coming across in the trailers that have been released so far.
Lucifer is based on a character created in 1989 by Neil Gaiman (American Gods) for the pages of his The Sandman Vertigo Comics series. It then gave birth to a comic-book spinoff titled Lucifer, written by Mike Carey. If you're still on the fence about watching the series, both Gaiman and Carey are said to have given their seal of approval to the pilot. Check out the new trailer:
The series stars Tom Ellis (Rush) in the title role as Lucifer, who, bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals. Co-starring alongside Ellis are Lauren German (Chicago Fire) as Chloe Dancer, an LAPD homicide detective who finds herself both repulsed and fascinated by Lucifer; Lesley-Ann Brandt (Spartacus) as Lucifer’s best friend Maze, a fierce demon who takes the form of a human woman; Nicholas Gonzalez (Sleepy Hollow) as Dan, an LAPD homicide detective wary of Lucifer; D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, an angel sent to L.A. to persuade Lucifer to return to hell; and Rachael Harris as Linda, Lucifer’s therapist.
What do you think? Will you be tuning up for Lucifer come January 2016?
