It's been a while since Hollywood vampire culture has truly been called cool. After the Twilight sparkles have been spent and Dracula's London fog has faded, the fanged landscape has been painfully devoid of genuinely creepy chic. Not since Len Wiseman's Underworld trilogy or David Slade's chilly 30 Days of Night stalked the silver screen has there been a viciously dark portrayal of brooding bloodsuckers ... that is, until now.
Indie director Jim Jarmusch (Mystery Train, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, Dead Man) taps into his inner Hunger for this tale of vampiric romance with Only Lovers Left Alive, a biting new horror flick starring Tom Hiddleston (Thor, The Avengers) and Tilda Swinton (The Chronicles of Narnia, Constantine).
Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister. Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?
If you've got an appetite for Loki as a rock-star vampire slurping blood popsicles, then this cool little fright flick is fashioned for you to feast on.
