TV THIS WEEK: American Horror Story: Cult, The Orville, Fear the Walking Dead, Con Man on SYFY, and more

We’re finally flirting with fall, and this week brings more than a few premieres. From deep-space spoofs to zombie hordes, we have it all. Oh, not to mention an excellent web series getting a second life on cable.

The big stories this week are the premieres of American Horror Story: Cult and The Orville, along with the return of Fear the Walking Dead. On top of those heavy hitters, we also have the season finale of SYFY’s cult hit Blood Drive, plus the small-screen premiere of the hilarious web comedy Con Man (seriously, check it out).

We’ve also included a few basic cable movie picks sprinkled in with the new shows and episodes, so be sure to set your DVR accordingly and snag these while you can. Check out our rundown below and let us know what you’ll be watching.

Highlights

American Horror Story: Cult (FX), Tuesday 10 p.m. - “Election Night”

SEASON PREMIERE: Season 7 premiere of the FX horror anthology.

 

Blood Drive (SYFY), Wednesday 10 p.m. - “Finish Line”

SEASON FINALE: Arthur, Grace, and Slink attack Heart Enterprises, but their deepest fears are waiting for them.

 

Con Man (SYFY), Saturday 10:05 p.m. - “Stalled; Cash Poor; Behind the Lines; Handicapableing It All Up”

NETWORK PREMIERE: Alan Tudyk’s hilarious web series about a washed-up sci-fi actor comes to SYFY, complete with a boatload of laughs and great cameos. If you missed it on the web, be sure to catch it here.

 

The Orville (Fox), Sunday 8 p.m. - “Old Wounds”

SERIES PREMIERE: Series premiere of a comedy-drama that follows the futuristic adventures of the Orville, a spaceship, and its crew of humans and aliens. First up: Ed Mercer is promoted to captain, but his enthusiasm wanes when his ex-wife is assigned first officer.

 

Fear the Walking Dead (AMC), Sunday 9 p.m. - “Minotaur / The Diviner”

MIDSEASON FINALE: In the aftermath of the Clark family's actions, new leadership assumes control of the Ranch; Daniel assists Lola in the distribution of water; with the Ranch dangerously low on resources, Madison and Walker leave in search of a solution.

Monday

Star Trek: Voyager (BBC America), Monday 6 a.m. - Labor Day marathon

If you’re looking for an old-school way to beat the heat, you could do far worse than BBC America’s day-long Voyager marathon. The network will be running the acclaimed Trek series all day, from 6 a.m. until midnight.

 

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (FX), Monday 8 p.m.

Captain America teams with Black Widow and the Falcon to fight the villainous Winter Soldier. Meanwhile, S.H.I.E.L.D. comes under attack, and a malevolent conspiracy threatens to destabilize the entire planet.

 

Preacher (AMC), Monday 9 p.m. - “On Your Knees”

NEW: Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy hit a bump in the road and plan to leave New Orleans. An old foe resurfaces, causing a change of plans.

 

Midnight, Texas (NBC), Monday 10 p.m. - “Angel Heart”

NEW: A bounty hunter from Joe's past arrives in Midnight to punish him for leaving the angelic fold. Manfred takes charge with a plan to lead Fiji, Olivia, Bobo, and Lem in an effort to stop this dangerous, nearly immortal foe from killing Joe and Chuy, as well as destroying Midnight. Meanwhile, Creek struggles to recover from her family tragedy. Elsewhere, the Rev refuses to compromise the safety of his neighbors, and it costs him dearly.

 

People of Earth (TBS), Monday 10:30 p.m. - “Bee Kind”

NEW: The group asks Agent Foster for help with an investigation; Chelsea and her husband go to marriage counseling; and Jeff blames Don for bringing an intruder onto the ship.

Tuesday

Guardians of the Galaxy (FX), Tuesday 7:30 p.m.

Cosmic outlaws face an interstellar villain who seeks to control the universe with a powerful orb. Together, Peter Quill, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, and Drax the Destroyer may be the galaxy's only hope for thwarting Ronan's sinister plan.

 

Face Off: Game Face (SYFY), Tuesday 9 p.m. - “Things Get Harry”

NEW: The artists must create human-fish hybrids, use accounts of exorcisms to create demons, and take on a magical final challenge inspired by spells from Harry Potter.

 

American Horror Story: Cult (FX), Tuesday 10 p.m. - “Election Night”

Wednesday

Superman Returns (TNT), Wednesday 8 p.m.

The Man of Steel has been missing in action for five years, but upon his reappearance in Metropolis he discovers that he is needed more than ever to battle villainous Lex Luthor and his plans for world domination.

 

Priest (SYFY), Wednesday 8 p.m.

In a world ravaged by wars between humans and vampires, a renegade priest fights to rescue his niece from the legions of bloodsuckers who seek to transform the young girl into one of them. He enlists the help of a powerful warrior Priestess and his niece's boyfriend.

 

Salvation (CBS), Wednesday 9 p.m. - “All In”

NEW: Grace and Harris must forge an alliance when their children's lives are in jeopardy. Meanwhile, Liam presents Jillian with an unusual proposal.

 

Blood Drive (SYFY), Wednesday 10 p.m. - “Finish Line”

The Lowe Files (A&E), Wednesday 10 p.m. - “America's Secret Space Program”

NEW: Rob Lowe and his sons look into the weird and wild. This week: The spooky secrets of space.

Thursday

Stephen King's ‘It' (Spike), Thursday 8 p.m.

TV adaptation of a tale about childhood friends haunted by a three-decade struggle against a demonic creature in a small town.

 

Snow White and the Huntsman (FX), Thursday 8 p.m.

An evil queen orders the death of Snow White, who is being trained in the art of war by a huntsman. Meanwhile, a prince becomes enthralled by Snow White's beauty and strength.

 

Zoo (CBS), Thursday 10 p.m. - “Cradles and Graves”

NEW: The team is trapped inside a plane by toxic spores surrounding them. Meanwhile, complications arise during the delivery of Clementine's baby.

Friday

World War Z (FX), Friday 8 p.m.

An ex-United Nations employee races against time to save humanity from a pandemic that has triggered a global war between mankind and the undead.

 

X2: X-Men United (Freeform), Friday 8 p.m.

Action-packed, all-star sequel in which the Marvel Comics mutant superheroes band together when the government tries to eliminate them.

 

Ancient Aliens (History), Friday 9 p.m. - “The Alien Disks”

Strange disk-shaped artifacts and theories that they represent extraterrestrial technology are investigated using evidence located in Asia and South America.

Saturday

Serenity (SYFY), Saturday 7:30 p.m.

The renegade crew of a space freighter hide a fugitive from a totalitarian regime in 26th-century outer space. During their travels, they accept any work they can get and take on several passengers along the way while running from the feared military force.

 

The Dead Files (Travel), Saturday 10 p.m. - “Drained - Ripley, West Virginia”

NEW: Steve DiSchiavi and Amy Allan investigate paranormal activity threatening the lives of a Ripley, W.Va., father and his family. Their investigation uncovers a powerful demon terrorizing the family, along with a psychic vampire who threatens to suck the life force from everyone who lives in the house.

The Last Ship (TNT), Sunday 9 p.m. - “Allegiance”

NEW: Nathan James is diverted from their mission when they receive a suspicious distress call from a fishing trawler.

 

The Strain (FX), Sunday 10 p.m. - "The Traitor"

An unexpected guest brings old conflicts to the surface, dividing our heroes, threatening the group's trust. With questionable new intel in hand, they launch a make-or-break final assault on the Master.
