David Goyer's The Unborn opened in third place during the weekend of Jan. 9, taking in an impressive $21.1 million, the Hollywood trade papers reported.

Though it wasn't number one, the Rogue Pictures title nevertheless scored the best January opening for a horror movie since Lionsgate's Hostel ($19.6 million in 2005).

The Unborn stars Odette Yustman, Cam Gigandet and Gary Oldman and deals with a young woman who believes she is being haunted by her unborn twin.
