Little-known but incredibly hot British actress Hayley Atwell has won the coveted female lead role in the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger movie, opposite Chris Evans.
That's the news on The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog, which said Atwell (Brideshead Revisited, AMC's The Prisoner) beat out such famous actresses as Emily Blunt and Keira Knightley for the World War II-era role:
The character Atwell will play is named Peggy Carter, who in comics lore not only dated Captain America but was an agent helping the French Resistance. She later became the aunt of Sharon Carter, Captain America's love in modern times.
She joins a cast the includes not only Evans but also Sebastian Stan as sidekick Bucky Barnes and Hugo Weaving, who is in talks to play the villainous Red Skull. Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park III) directs. Captain America is slated for release on July 22, 2011.
