It seems like the Walking Dead producers are really big fans of HBO’s acclaimed series The Wire.
A report indicates that Lawrence Gilliard Jr. has been cast as new character Roy Stark, described as a "former Army medic who is deeply haunted by his past." Stark seems to be a TV creation who does not appear in the comics, though he bears some background similarities to comic character Sgt. Abraham Ford.
Gilliard has previous held roles on The Wire, Friday Night Lights and Southland. If this report does pan out, Gilliard will be the second Wire alum to take a regular spot on the zombie drama, following Chad Coleman’s turn as Tyreese.
It’s not much of a surprise to hear that new showrunner Will Gimple is beefing up the cast for season four, after the bloodbath of Glen Mazzara’s third season. Considering the fact that Hershel is about the only person with any medical training, this new character should be a welcome addition to the fold.
It’ll be interesting to see if he’s a Woodbury refugee or just some other survivor who stumbles upon the prison.
What do you think of the casting choice? Will Gilliard be a good fit for Walking Dead?
