20th Century Fox has released a new extended clip from director Matt Reeves’ new Planet of the Apes opus, War for the Planet of the Apes.

The sneak peek introduces a new chimpanzee character named Bad Ape, who is voiced and motion-captured by Steve Zahn (Sahara, Captain Fantastic). From the look of things, Bad Ape may very well become a fan favorite.

In the three-minute clip, which also features interspersed shots from the movie, we see Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his young human companion Nova (Amiah Miller) as they meet Bad Ape and have an interesting conversation about the little chimp learning to speak by himself, and a bad place he calls a human zoo.

Check out the movie synopsis before digging into the extended preview below. War for the Planet of the Apes will open July 14.

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
