WATCH: 5 first episodes that got us hooked immediately

Everyone knows that the first episode of a TV series — and sometimes even the entire first season — can make for a rough start before the show finds its footing. One prime example that comes to mind is Star Trek: The Next Generation, which arguably didn't come into its own until Season 3.

But there are exceptions. Sometimes, a TV show manages to grab our imagination right off the bat.

SYFY WIRE has compiled a list of five of our favorite TV pilots that got us hooked from the get-go. So, without further ado (and in no particular order), here is our list of pilots that had us eating in the palm of their hands the moment the show made it to the airwaves.

The truth was out there when The X-Files' first episode (simply titled "Pilot") introduced us to Fox Mulder and Dana Scully and had everything from exhumed bodies, nasal implants, possible alien abduction and a scene where Mulder looks at Scully's back for science, err, to make sure she wasn't marked for death.

Then we have Netflix's Stranger Things, which had us binge-watching the Duffer Brothers series the moment young Will Byers vanished from the streets of Hawkins, Indiana and Eleven was introduced. Didn't hurt that the show also has one of the coolest title sequence ever.

Next up is Battlestar Galactica's three-hour miniseries which kinda sorta acted as a pilot for Ron D. Moore's reboot of the original 1978-1979 sci-fi series. It introduced us to a gender-swapped Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) and Tricia Helfer's Six.

Included on our list is the pilot for Rod Serling's anthology series, The Twilight Zone. The show was an apt blend of psychological horror, science-fiction and deft storytelling which creeped us out with its first episode, "Where Is Everybody?"

Finally, no such list can possibly be complete without including a J.J. Abrams show. But which one? You'll have to watch our video to find out (HINT: you might guess it from the video image below ...).

Which pilot not included on our list got YOU hooked on a particular series? Let us know in the comments below.
