Ariel just wants to be part of our world, and she might soon get her wish, as rumors of a live-action version of The Little Mermaid were floating around this week. But first Ariel is diving into new waters -- virtual reality.
Legendary Disney animator Glen Keane and basketball player Kobe Bryant (aka the odd couple) hit The Late Late Show With James Corden to promote their animated basketball film "Dear Basketball." Keane worked on basically every significant Disney animated film from your childhood, including Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Tarzan, and, of course, The Little Mermaid. When asked which character was his favorite, he naturally said Ariel, because she believes "the impossible is possible."
Then, using VR technology, Keane proceeded to draw Ariel live and in dramatic fashion as "Part of Your World" played. It's amazing to watch Ariel appear magically before your eyes while watching a genius at work. And Keane made it look easy.
Check it out in the stunning video below:
Is anyone else wondering how many times he had to practice to make the timing work out perfectly? And what if he made a mistake? Well now that Ariel has entered VR, it seems like she's made her way into another world. Next stop, live action.
