This electrifying new superhero show stars Cress Williams as the retired caped crusader, now a high school principal in Freeland, who is reluctantly brought back into vigilantism after gangland trouble strikes too close to home.
But exactly where did the high voltage DC character come from and precisely what are his paranormal powers?
Beyond being created by writer Tony Isabella and artist Trevor Von Eeden, the Metropolis-born crimefighter named Jefferson Pierce first appeared in April of 1977 with Black Lightning #1 but was cancelled a year later. He made many cameo appearances in a multitude of titles over the years before being developed by Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti and The CW for the small screen.
Plug in to a lightning-fast, two-minute trip into the Black Lightning mythos in the video above, then tell us if you're excited for this forcefield-generating, electricity-blasting figure for justice appearing in his debut series next Tuesday.
