On the second day of C2E2, Twisted Toonz returned to the Windy City to give fans in Chicago another unforgettable script reading. This year's selection is a true love letter to the city of Chicago: Ferris Bueller's Day Off! You may think you know the story, but you've never heard it quite like this ... because Twisted Toonz is all about taking a familiar cinematic experience and throwing it into a cartoon blender.
Each character from the original movie script is portrayed by animation voiceover artists who reprise their most iconic roles or impersonations. But just when you're getting used to The Walking Dead's King Ezekiel as Ferris Bueller, SpongeBob as Principal Rooney or Snoop Dogg as the narrator, Twisted Toonz reshuffles the deck with a new round of characters and voices. It's never the same experience twice!
This year's Twisted Toonz lineup consisted of Tom Kenny, Laura Bailey, Phil LaMarr, Travis Willingham, Khary Payton, Vanessa Marshall, and Fred Tatasciore. Together, they offered their unique take on Ferris Bueller's friends and frenemies. When watching this video, you'll "Twist and Shout" with cartoon voices past and present, celebrities living and dead, as well as a few presidential guest stars. Plus, there's even a reasonable impersonation of Morgan Freeman, which may be the most God-like voice you'll hear today.
For fans of the respective franchises, you may notice elements from the characters' respective TV shows and movies bleeding into the narrative. There's even a few gender-bending examples along the way, and you may never look at Ferris Bueller's Day Off the same way again.
