From Hellboy to Blade 2, Guillermo del Toro makes such great sci-fi movies because, in his heart of hearts, he’s a legit fanboy. So, want to see what happens when he visits Japan and comes face to face with a giant Gundam?
Del Toro’s latest flick, Pacific Rim, is heavily inspired by the giant-robot/monster-movie culture of Japan, so the director recently visited Godzilla’s homeland as part of the film’s global press tour.
Along the way, he hung out with the film’s Japanese stars Rinko Kikuchi and Ashida Mana (young and old Mako Mori) and wandered the streets of Japan to take in the sights. Among those sights? This hella-awesome Gundam, and the look on del Toro’s face is priceless.
Now, enough with the fun stuff — let's get to work on Pacific Rim 2.
