The classic horror film The Exorcist came back to life as a TV series this fall at Fox, and though the ratings haven’t been great, the critical reception has been solid. Judging by what the cast and crew has to say, it’s only getting better.
We caught up with the cast and crew to talk about the adaptation, and star Geena Davis promised some major twists that will blow the story up soon(watch for Episode 5), along with her adoration for the original film. Creator Jeremy Slater talked about how he wanted to use the project as a way to tell a story about a family that “disintegrates from within” due to the invading presence of a demonic possession.
Put simply, he wanted to create a family drama that’s disguised as a horror series. Judging by the first few episodes, it’s easy to see those narrative decisions coming through (in a good way). Slater also touches on the primal horrors and fears at the heart of the scary parts, and how they’re tied to religious ideas and demonic possession.
