Ever since the Season 3 finale of Fox’s Gotham revealed that Butch Gilzean (Drew Powell) was actually Cyrus Gold, aka DC Comics villain/antihero Solomon Grundy, fans have been looking forward to seeing the character brought to life on the series.

Well, the wait is almost over, with the zombified character slated to make his debut in next week’s episode titled "A Dark Knight: The Blade's Path." SYFY WIRE caught up with Powell during New York Comic Con last weekend, where the actor was excited to talk about Grundy and the fact this will be the first time he'll be depicted in a certain way.

"We thought a lot about that because in some ways it's nice because we don't have anything to compare it to and in other ways it's scary because we want to get it right," Powell said. "Between the wardrobe and the makeup and the writing and the producing we really made sure we got this as much as, you know, it's still the Gotham world, we've got keep it in our Gotham world, we really wanted to adhere to the comic book canon and I think we've done that."

Powell added that it's been a lot of work in the gym and the makeup chair and revealed he called Cory Michael Smith (Edward Nygma/Riddler) and Robin Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin) to ask for some advice about how to inhabit the comic book character.

"People love Solomon Grundy and there's this beautiful, almost sadness about him, we're playing much more the antihero than the villain in a lot of ways and I just think people are going to really dig it," he said. "I didn't know this was going to happen until the end of last season so this wasn't something I saw coming so I feel really lucky and I tip my hat to the writing crew."
