Ahead of the 89th Academy Awards this coming Sunday, Industrial Light &; Magic has released a sneak peek at their Oscar-nominated visual effects for Marvel's Doctor Strange.

The video spotlights one of the most mind-bending scenes of the entire movie — the action-packed, twisty chase sequence involving the Sorcerer Supreme (Benedict Cumberbatch), his BFF Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and the villainous Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) and his Zealots across a New York City that keeps folding upon itself, Inception-style.

To create the impressive visual effects, ILM chose to build the Big Apple from the ground up instead of using real footage of the city, no doubt making it easier (though no less of a gargantuan task) for the visual effects team to create the Mirror Dimension.

One of the biggest movies of 2016, Doctor Strange faces stiff competition from Deepwater Horizon, Kubo and the Two Strings and fellow Disney movies The Jungle Book and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the Best Visual Effects category. Can the Marvel movie emerge the winner and nab the Oscar?
