As of this year, the world has been blessed with a hundred years of Jack Kirby. He may no longer be with us, but his creative legacy as the creative powerhouse behind Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Incredible Hulk, Black Panther, the Silver Surfer, the New Gods, The Demon, Kamandi and so many more, still endures.
Jack Kirby is the man that comics fans and pros alike affectionately call "The King," and he's not only responsible for many of the medium's most beloved characters, he also created many storytelling techniques and visual language that so many artists use today, most famously with "Kirby Crackle," the use of black dots and negative space to represent "energy."
Kirby lived a long and accomplished life, but certainly wasn't without its trials. Kirby is as fascinating a figure as any of his characters, and his story is just as worth telling. Which is what we did in this video, which tries to squeeze as much of the legendary life of the King of Comics as possible into a mere two minutes. There's a lot to pack in, but you're sure to learn something, and come out with a new appreciation for one of the true titans of the artform.
