Sweet Christmas. Marvel’s Luke Cage will be back for a powered-up second season on Netflix in just a few short weeks. And while Season 2 will feature the return of most of the principal Season 1 cast, the comic book TV series will also be introducing Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir) as the season’s new big bad.
To whet your appetite for the Hero for Hire’s return to our various screens, SYFY WIRE’s Karama Horne sat down with executive producer and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker to chat about Season 2.
During our talk, Coker revealed that while Luke (Mike Colter) spent most of Season 1 as a fugitive, he’s now a superhero in the age of celebrity. He even has an app called “Harlem’s Hero App,” which allows people to find him wherever he is. Which is... not very conducive for any kind of private life.
Coker also discussed the influence of the comics on the show, underlining the fact that their goal is to find a way to adapt the characters to make them fit the Marvel TV universe. He also talked about casting Shakir as Bushmaster, and how good he and Colter were in their fight choreography. The showrunner also touched upon how music influences the show, sharing stunt people with Black Panther (and vice versa), and a whole lot more.
Check out our exclusive interview with the Luke Cage showrunner, and let us know if you’ll be watching come June 22.
