I’ve never been a huge fan of found-footage-style movies (shaky cameras make me green around the gills). However, this new trailer for Phoenix Forgotten may very well sell me on the genre kicked off by The Blair Witch Project by mixing it up with aliens and UFOs.
Directed by Justin Barber (Beginners) and co-written by Barber and T.S. Nowlin (The Maze Runner movies, Pacific Rim: Uprising), Phoenix Forgotten boasts legendary director Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Alien: Covenant) as one of the movie's producers. If that wasn’t some awesome geek cred right there, the film also has the creative team behind The Maze Runner series and the producers of 300 and Immortals behind it. Not bad, eh?
The movie is based on the alleged real-life UFO sightings of March 13, 1997, over Phoenix, Arizona, and Sonora, Mexico, called the Phoenix Lights. Which provides an interesting springboard for the film. It centers on three students who decide to uncover the truth behind the sightings but vanish without a trace. Twenty years after their mysterious disappearance, some terrifying footage chronicling their final hours is found.
Phoenix Forgotten stars Florence Hartigan, Chelsea Lopez, Justin Matthews and Luke Spencer Roberts. It will open in theaters on April 21.
