He might not be making any new Blade flicks, but Wesley Snipes hasn’t given up on the supernatural thriller genre. He’s just heading from the screen to the page for his latest project.
Deadline reports Snipes is preparing to release his first novel, Talon of God, which will be published July 25, 2017, by Harper Voyager. The book is being co-written by Ray Norman. The story follows Lauren Jefferson, a young doctor who gets tied up in an apocalyptic battle between heaven and hell (and a spirit warrior called the Talon Hunter). The project was developed with plans to bring it to the big screen, though for now, it’s just a book.
“There are spiritual warriors that inhabit this planet who are here to help balance out the evil forces, and they are always looking for the next apprentice,” Snipes told Deadline. “And when they find the next apprentice to train — the next heir apparent — then they can move on to the higher realms.”
Snipes described the vibe of the story as equal parts Constantine, The Devil’s Advocate and “little bits” of Blade. It also has an “urban element, hip-hop element, [and] supernatural elements.” He said he wrote the series with a strong female lead to “bridge the gap" in equality.
