That What We Do in the Shadows television spinoff you've been pining after will arrive on FX, which has committed to making a full half-hour pilot, reports Variety. Based on the 2014 mockumentary about a bunch of vampires living together in New Zealand, the show's plot is currently a secret, but we know it will focus on characters who appeared in the movie. The original film was helmed by Jemaine Clement (The BFG, Moana) and a pre-Thor: Ragnarok Taika Waititi.
Both will pull double duty on the show as executive producers while Clement handles writing and Waititi sits in the director's chair.
Unlike the movie, the show will take place in America and star Kayvan Novak (Four Lions), Matt Berry (Community), Natasia Demetriou (Year Friends), and Harvey Guillen (The Thundermans). To be clear, the original cast will not be featured, but if the show takes off, you can probably bet Clement and Waititi won't be able to resist stepping in front of the camera for some special cameo roles.
This is just the first adaptation of the cult mockumentary that's in the works. Another show titled Wellington Paranormal is a spinoff set to focus on police detectives Mike Minogue and Karen O'Leary. As the main characters, they'll hunt supernatural beings like ghosts and werewolves. Producer Paul Yates described it as "Police Ten7 meets The X-Files." Another spinoff, We're Wolves, involves the werewolves seen in What We Do in The Shadows.
