Since 2009, fans of Joss Whedon, horror movies and cabins alike have clamored behind Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods to see its release. There were some stumbling blocks along the way, including a switch to a 3-D format (really?) and MGM going belly up (whoops!).
But that's the past. Lionsgate is the present. Why did the film finally get picked up? Is it the quality of the story? Is it the Facebook fan movement, "Release Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods"? Or is it the fact that the Mighty Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, is starring? The world may never know.
All right, it's probably that third thing. But hey! That's OK. What's important is that Cabin is coming out. No release date has been confirmed, but a recent shuffle in Lionsgate's schedule (their film, Dibbuk Box, was moved from October to January) makes a Halloween 2011 launch seems likely.
In addition to Hemsworth (whom Whedon began directing as Thor in The Avengers this week), other Joss favorites, including Tom Lenk (Buffy), Amy Acker (Angel) and Fran Kranz (Dollhouse), also star. Think of them as the Avengers, Team B. At long last, they are assembling!
