Why Martin says his books are 'dirtier' than that freaky Thrones porn parody

If you ask George R.R. Martin, even full-fledged porn can't match the more scandalous plotlines of his books.

Over the past three years television audiences have had endless fun with the unrelenting sexuality that permeates HBO's Game of Thrones, based on Martin's often equally sexy A Song of Ice and Fire novels, so it was no surprise to anyone that this year brought us Game of Bones, a Thrones porn parody. It was only a matter of time before someone got the bright idea to combine the almost-porn of some of Thrones' sexier scenes with real-life porn stars and have a little pun-filled dirty fun, but according to Martin, his story still comes out dirtier. Why? Because, while Game of Bones may depict Westerosi sex in all its ... ahem ... biological detail, it's missing one very taboo key element from the original story.

"There is an incestuous relationship at the heart of Game of Thrones and you find out about it pretty early in the first book,” Martin said when asked about Game of Bones during a recent event at the Santa Fe Film Festival, referring to the romance betwen twin siblings Jaime and Cersei Lannister.

“But in the porn version that they're doing they've omitted the incest because that would just be too shocking. So my books are actually dirtier than the porn version!"

Lee Roy Myers, the director of Game of Bones, has said in the past that his company will "typically try and avoid incest as a running theme in porn," for obvious reasons. It's not surprising that the porn version leaves about the brother-sister love, but it is a little surprising that Martin seems so amused by it. Apparently, in Martin's world, it's not annoying or insulting if someone makes a porn parody of your work. It's just funny that you somehow still managed to be more shocking than actual pornography.
