Gal Gadot as Diana won't be the only Wonder Woman cast member coming back for Justice League later this year. Spoilers ahead!
If you haven't seen Wonder Woman yet, you might want to stop reading here, since we're delving into spoiler territory for both that film and the upcoming Justice League. If you're okay with that, feel free to scroll past the exciting compilation of clips below and keep reading ...
Diana is not, of course, the only powerful Amazon warrior we meet in Wonder Woman. We are also introduced to her mother Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) and her aunt and mentor Antiope (Robin Wright), the leader of the Amazonian army who trains Diana to become the fierce fighter she is.
Sadly, Wright's fantastic take on Antiope is cut short when she is killed during the first battle on the beach of Themyscira with the German forces. But while we've already known that Connie Nielsen's Hippolyta will encore in this November's Justice League, it seems that we'll get to see more of Wright in that film as well.
When all three women were interviewed recently by the Los Angeles Times, they were asked if fans will see more of Diana's relationship with her mother. Here's how they responded:
Gadot: Of course; the mother and daughter relationship is always a beautiful but complex relationship. I think that there’s a lot more to explore.
Nielsen: And (Wright and I) got to do more in Justice League as well. As sisters as well. Kind of badass as well. We can’t say much, but …
Wright: And more of the story, you get some of the history.
Obviously this means that we'll see some sort of flashback in Justice League, and as Slashfilm points out, the most recent trailer for that film does give us a glimpse of a rather large-scale battle in which the Amazonians take part.
What that clash is about in the bigger context of Justice League has yet to be revealed (and indeed, could also be altered or even scaled down by the reshoots being handled by Joss Whedon), but the good news is that for those of us who wished Robin Wright's Antiope stuck around a little longer, we will get to see her in action again.
Justice League is out November 17, 2017.
